The GY-SHT30-D is a compact, high-precision digital temperature and humidity sensor breakout board built around Sensirion’s SHT30 sensor. It provides calibrated, linearized, and temperature-compensated digital output over a standard I2C interface, making it a reliable choice for environmental monitoring, HVAC control, weather stations, and IoT applications.

At the heart of the module is the SHT30 sensor, which features a 16-bit output resolution for both temperature and humidity. The humidity measurement range covers 0–100% RH with a stated accuracy of ±3% RH, while the temperature range spans -40°C to +125°C with ±0.3°C accuracy . The sensor is factory-calibrated, with calibration coefficients programmed into on-chip memory, so no external trimming is required .

The module operates from a 1.8V to 3.6V supply (some board-level variants accept up to 5.5V via onboard regulation), making it compatible with 3.3V microcontrollers such as ESP32, STM32, and Raspberry Pi . The I2C interface supports communication speeds up to 1MHz, and the module includes onboard pull-up resistors and decoupling capacitors for stable operation .

The default I2C address is 0x44, configurable to 0x45 via the ADR pin, allowing two sensors to share the same bus . The board also exposes RST and ALR (alert) pins for hardware reset and programmable temperature/humidity threshold alarms.

Important Note: This module operates at 1.8–3.6V logic. Do not connect it directly to a 5V Arduino Uno or Mega without level shifting or a 3.3V supply, as this may damage the sensor . The sensor is not waterproof and should be kept dry. For accurate readings, ensure the module is not exposed to direct sunlight or heat sources.

Whether you are building a weather station, a greenhouse controller, or a smart home sensor node, the GY-SHT30-D provides a reliable, well-supported solution for precise digital environmental sensing.

Usage

Getting Started (Arduino with 3.3V Logic)

  1. Connect power — Supply 3.3V to VCC and GND to ground. Do not use 5V directly .

  2. Connect I2C lines — Connect SCL to your microcontroller’s I2C clock and SDA to the I2C data line:

    • ESP32: SCL → GPIO22, SDA → GPIO21 (default)

    • Raspberry Pi: SCL → GPIO3, SDA → GPIO2

    • Arduino (3.3V boards): SCL → A5, SDA → A4

  3. Install the library — Install the Adafruit_SHT31 library through the Arduino Library Manager. It supports the SHT30 at address 0x44 .

  4. Upload a test sketch — Use the library example to read temperature and humidity over Serial.

  5. Verify readings — Compare against a known reference if precision is critical.
